In a major development in the Umesh Pal murder case, police have filed a chargesheet against three key accused from the slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s gang—Guddu Muslim, Arman, and Sabir. These shooters have been on the run for nearly 18 months and have evaded capture despite extensive search operations across 14 states and multiple arrest warrants issued in seven states.
The trio, all key figures in the murder of Umesh Pal, each carry a bounty of Rs 5 lakh. They are active members of Atiq Ahmed’s IS-227 gang and are considered instrumental in the high-profile crime.
Advocate Umesh Pal and his two government-assigned bodyguards were brutally gunned down in broad daylight outside his home on February 24, 2023. Guddu Muslim, one of the prime accused, hurled bombs at Umesh Pal and one of his guards, while Sabir and Arman opened fire on the second guard, Sandeep Nishad, with rifles and pistols. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.
The chargesheet, according to police, is backed by substantial evidence, including video footage and witness statements that confirm the trio’s involvement in the crime. Despite court orders, the accused have repeatedly failed to appear in court, leading to additional charges of contempt. DCP Abhishek Bharti confirmed the chargesheet has been officially filed.
In addition to these three shooters, the police are intensifying their search for Atiq Ahmed’s wife, Shaista Parveen, his brother Ashraf’s wife, Zainab Fatima, and their sister, Ayesha Noori, all of whom have been absconding since the murder.
So far, 15 people have been charged in connection with the case. Of those, 12 are currently in custody, including Atiq Ahmed’s sons, Umar and Ali, while three, including the prime shooters, remain at large.
